I recently installed the new (and long overdue) upgrade to Internet Explorer, Version 7. I am now unable to "get media data from provider" on the Recording tab, and no music is showing on the "audio devices" tab.

I suspect this is because of an incompatibility with the new version of Internet Explorer, Version 7.

Are you able to get AOMrecord to work with Internet Explorer Version 7?

Some questions to investigate further:

- Do you still have IE 6 on the same machine and does it still work with this version?
- Which station are you using?

I used to have IE6 before I upgraded to IE7, but the upgrade removed IE6.

With IE6, I was able to record Live365 (for example, the Trad. Jazz Radio station), before I upgraded to IE7. Now I am not able to record the same station.

I think this will take a while. I'll have to make sure that I can run both versions on my system before I start testing.

Meanwhile you could have a look into the IE settings. There might be a setting that keeps AOMrecord from accessing the IE. Please let me know if you find something interesting.

Here it is: Get the latest Update of AOMrecord. BTW, LIVE365 has changed their player to work different with IE 7 than it used to with IE 6. So this was not really an IE 7 problem.

Thanks very much, I'm able to record again off of Live365 Radio!

However I noticed a couple of error messages in the Audio Devices tab:

Automatic input search: "AOMrecord could not detect any audio data. Please set the input manually as described in teh documentation or use the assistant."

Automatic Gain Control: "AOMrecord could eventually not adjust the recording level to its optimum!"

Mark,

These messages have nothing to do with IE 7. They mean that AOMrecord was not able to rceognize your soundcard's input channels correctly.

Is there something I can do to let AOMrecord recognize my soundcard's input channels correctly? It used to be able to do this and for some reason it stopped. I understand it has nothing to do with IE7.

ok after some tinkering I think I'm on to something....

My main computer sound card is called SB Audigy Audio [CD80]. I recently installed a Logitech Ultra Vision webcam which has a built in microphone. When I clicked "Open Mixer Settings" I noticed that settings for both the Logitech and SB Audigy Audio came up - perhaps causing confusion?

So, I went into Windows Device Manager and temporarily disabled the Logitech microphone. Now both "Automatic Input Search" and "Automatic Gain Control" worked again in AOMrecord.

There should be a way to have "Automati Input Serach" and "Automatic Gain Control" work without disabling the Logitech microphone, would you agree?

Maybe it's just a labelling issue with "Record From this Sound Device"?

I re-enabled the Logitech device, and when I select Logitech Mic (Ultra Vision) in "Record from this Sound Device", then "Open Mixer settings", the settings for SB Audigy Audio came up.

Also the reverse was true, when I select "SB Audigy Audio" on "Record from this Sound Device", and "Open Mixer Settings", the settings for Logitech Mic (Ultra Vision)" came up.

So I think it could be a labelling issue with "Record from this sound device" when there are a couple of choices available...

I basically agree but have the problem how to decide which one of the inputs to use. To explain: Currently AOMrecord scans the inputs in the sequence it gets them from Windows and takes the first one that shows a sound level. Right now it is unable to make a decision if this is the correct input and therefore decides that the first one is ok, which is a correct assumption in almost 100% of the cases.

I'm thinking if in the future AOMrecord should scan all inputs and let the user decide which one he wants to use. But from my experience I'm not sure if users are really able to make this decision because most of them don't know what might be correct. This especially is the case if the inputs are not very meaningful named.

Let me know about your opinion.

P.S. About the labelling problem: This is just the sequence Windows opens the mixer settings. I have no influence on this.

To tell you the truth, I thought I already had the ability to choose from sound devices, since there is a drop down menu called "Record from this sound device". So, I would vote for making this a real choice, since that is what the interface leads me to believe.

In many cases (like mine, knowing that the Logitech webcam device is not correct) the choice of sound devices will be obvious, in other cases, a little trial and error should work.
